Women of the South (WOS) has awarded numerous scholarships and participates in many cultural and community projects. Financing for these projects is achieved through our annual fundraising events, including:

Philanthropic and Community Activities

1996 ? 2003

Women of the South awarded 45 women, who are primary providers of their household with Associate Degrees at Oklahoma City Community College. Funding included tuition, fees, and books.

Women of the South awarded more than $75,000 in scholarships to 80 Southside high school senior women.

Women of the South awarded $18,000 in scholarships to Southside high school senior women for concurrent enrollment.

Women of the South annually awards a $1,000 grant to a Southside elementary school. In 2000 the grant was awarded to Southern Hills Elementary School, in 2001 it was awarded to Oakridge Elementary School, and in 2002 it was awarded to Bryant Elementary. In 2003 the grant was awarded to Central Elementary School. Two former Presidents of Women of the South, Joyce Mauldin and Kyle Dahlem, saw a need and developed the criteria for this grant to assist an elementary school with a special one-time need.

Women of the South co-sponsored the "Women?s Health Forum" with INTEGRIS Health featuring Linda Gray, Olivia Dukakis, Linda Evans, Debbie Reynolds, Joan Rivers, Mr. Jack Canfield, author of Chicken Soup for the Soul, and Harry Belafonte.

Women of the South co-sponsored the "On Your Own" health education program with INTEGRIS Health. More than 1000 senior girls from Southside area schools have participated in this program.

Women of the South participated in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer "Race for the Cure" and "Relay for Life."

Women of the South made financial gifts to the Goodin Quintuplet College Fund, Canterbury Choral Festival for high school singers, the Moore Public Library's "Share a Book, Share a Hug" Teen Parents project, the YWCA and Southwest Medical Center Foundation.

Women of the South is an underwriter for the Clinica de la Mujer Latina, a Latino cancer-screening program in south Oklahoma City.

Women of the South participated in the South Chamber of Commerce building campaign and the 2001 YMCA Capital Campaign.

Women of the South have registered over 100 voters in south Oklahoma City.

Women of the South served as hostesses for the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Society's Odyssey Antiques Show and Sale.

Women of the South annually volunteers to assist with the Oklahoma City Orchestra League?s Decorators? Show House, Christmas Connection Store Fundraiser, the Arts Festival Oklahoma, and the Downs Syndrome of Central Oklahoma Walk.

Women of the South annually hosts an informational workshop for young women interested in pledging for a sorority.
