The Founding Members of Women of the South had a vision to provide higher educational opportunities for women who do not have resources to attend a college or university. That vision became a reality in 1995 when Women of the South (WOS) was founded. The two scholarship programs available include: an Associate Degree scholarship to Oklahoma City Community College for women who are the sole or primary providers of their household, and a scholarship for young women graduating from a Southside Oklahoma City high school.

Primary Provider Scholarships:
WOS Primary Provider scholarships are available to those women who are the sole or primary providers of their household. Recipients of this scholarship will receive funding from Women of the South to obtain an associate degree from Oklahoma City Community College. The scholarship includes tuition, fees, and books paid directly to the college. A recipient must be a primary provider who possesses a high school diploma or equivalent, resides in south Oklahoma City metropolitan area and falls within the financial income requirements.

WOS has awarded 50 primary provider scholarships since its inception. Nineteen women have graduated and two are currently attending four-year colleges with the help of our new BA Scholarship Program which provides additional funding to past Primary Providers.

High School Scholarships:
WOS has awarded 142 scholarships to high school senior women between 1995 and 2003, with an additional 20 scholarships awarded in April 2004.

WOS awards scholarships to young women graduating from high schools located in south Oklahoma City and Moore. Senior women students from the following high schools are eligible to apply for the scholarships: Capitol Hill High School, Southeast High School, U.S. Grant High School, Westmoore High School, Moore High School, and Western Heights High School.

Recipients will receive a $1,000.00 scholarship, $500.00 each semester. The recipient must be entering an Oklahoma college or university as a first-time freshman in the fall following their senior year in high school. A grade point average of 2.5 is required to apply for the scholarship. The award is determined on the basis of financial need, school and community honors, extracurricular activities and academic achievement.

The scholarship application and the accompanying documentation are due March 31. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please click on the link below to download a copy of the application.
